Class Description / Dance Attire

Classical Ballet Technique – 50 minute class (Ages 8 – Adult)

There are four distinct ballet techniques – the classic Italian Cecchetti method, the graceful French,
the strong Russian, and the Royal. Classes include barre work, across the floor, and center work. The emphasis is correct placement and natural alignment with movement quality and musicality. Focus on
port de bras, pirouettes, petite and grande allegro (small and large jumps), adagios, and variations (pieces from full length ballets).
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit, ballet pink tights and ballet slippers. Ballet skirts are optional.

Pointe Technique – 50 minute class course (Ages 11 to Adult)

PREREQUISITE: Intermediate Level of Ballet Training
Basic techniques of dancing on pointe. Emphasis is placed on correct pointe placement /positions and exercises to strengthen the ankles, feet and legs while increasing strength and executing movements.
DRESS CODE: Same as above for Ballet class

Jazz Technique – 50 minute class (Ages 11 to Adult)

Styles: Contemporary Jazz, Funk, Musical Theatre & Lyrical
If you dream about being on Broadway, in videos, or in a dance company- Jazz is it! The warm up utilizes both jazz and ballet stretches to improve the dancer’s “center body” strength and grounding sense. Our fast paced, athletic style jazz class encompasses all types of music with emphasis placed on pirouettes/turns, jumps, extension/kicks, isolations, and dynamics. The class focuses on expanding jazz vocabulary and refining performance technique.
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit with an option of tights (black, suntan, pink), black dance or biker shorts or black jazz pants. Black Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Shirt optional (must be form fitting). Jazz shoes should be worn.

Hip – Hop: 50 minute class (Ages 4 – adult)

This style of street dance is fun and very funky. If you like the infectious rhythms of hip-hop and R&B music – then this class is just for you. Get all the moves you see in Videos and concerts right here!

Triple Threat: – 50 minute class

The Triple Threat Class combines the three major talent aspects of the Musical Theatre: singing, acting and dancing. Throughout the year, students learn techniques for proper breathing, vocal placement, diction and musicianship (ear training, tone matching). They also learn to utilize improvisational skills for acting in the theatre, as well as some of the significant theories of acting (Stanislavski, Adler, Strasberg). Add dance into the mix, and you have a well-rounded musical theatre performer!
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit with an option of tights (black, suntan, pink), black dance or biker shorts or black jazz pants. Black Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Shirt optional (must be form fitting). Jazz shoes, character shoe, or dance sneaker.

Tap Technique: – 50 minute class (Ages 3 to Adult)

Tap dancing is certainly America’s most popular form of theatre dance. It is for boys and girls; for children and adults. In short, tap dancing is just about for everyone! Our formal tap class consists of exercises at the barre, exercises in the center, traveling steps (including turns) across the floor, combinations and routines in the center. Depending on the level of dance, Tap is taught in single, double, triple, double triplets, and syncopated triplets which is essential and the most difficult to execute for the advanced students.
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit with an option of tights (black, suntan, pink), black dance or biker shorts or black jazz pants. Black Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Shirt optional (must be form fitting). Tap shoes.

Irish Stepdancing: – 50 minute class (Ages 5 to Adult)

Our formal Irish Step-Dancing class is rooted from Ancient Celtic Tradition. Proper technique and terminology is taught yet “hard” shoes or hornpipers are not a must for potential dancers! Learn to “treble” or “batter” so quickly and easily, you will be amazed and out entertaining with us in no time! Our step dancing troop performs throughout the year in parades, festivals, fundraising events and at private events.
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit with an option of tights (black, suntan, pink), black dance or biker shorts or black jazz pants. Black Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Shirt optional (must be form fitting). Tap shoes or hard (hornpipe) shoes.

Zumba Fitness: 50 minute class (Teen and Adult) – OFFERED SEASONALLY

Zumba Fitness will improve the power and tone of the muscles, strengthen your heart and lungs, burn calories, and loose inches while redistributing your weight. Our program consists of warm up, flexibility, routines, floor toning and cool down. This total cardiovascular program will positively pump you up physically and psychologically.
DRESS CODE: Comfortable clothing with sneakers. Towel or matt optional for floor exercises.

Ballroom: Private classes offered by M & J Ballroom Dance  (see contact info on home page)

You’ll be delighted to see how quickly you can learn steps, rhythms, and breaks in Ballroom Dancing. We teach the Fox-Trot, Waltz, Cha Cha, Rumba, Tango, Mambo, Polka, Lindy, Swing, Meringue, Samba, Hustle and Salsa. In our program…you will learn today and dance tonight!!

COMBINATION CLASS
1/2  TAP & 1/2 BALLET: (Ages 3 to 9)

We have incorporated our popular Tap & Ballet classes together. This is the perfect way to introduce the art of dance. We start with the basics. As children develop a good concept of form we further their education to a higher level.
DRESS CODE: Children are required to wear a black or light pink bodysuit and ballet pink tights. Black or light pink Ballet skirts are optional. Ballet and tap shoes.

COMBINATION CLASS
1/2 TAP & 1/2  JAZZ: (Ages 6 to Adult)

We have incorporated our popular Tap & Jazz/Hip-Hop classes together. This class is designed to develop a thorough understanding of the technique. As students develop a good concept of form we further their education to a higher level.
DRESS CODE: Students are required to wear a black bodysuit with an option of tights (black, suntan, pink), black dance or biker shorts or black jazz pants. Black Mrs. Rosemary’s Dance Shirt optional (must be form fitting). Jazz shoes and Tap shoes.


Performance

At Mrs. Rosemary’s we provide numerous opportunities for performance throughout the year through community work and private affairs for our company members. Our performance program is designed to develop the student to the maximum level of his/her capabilities as a dancer and performer. All members have outstanding stage presence, good dance form, and an appreciation for professional dance.

Students in the FESTIVAL Dance Troop have entertained at functions sponsored by the American Cancer Society, The Chamber of Commerce, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Eger Rehabilitation Home,
Our Borough President and Elected Officials and many other local organizations and private events. They dance in the Columbus Day Parade, The St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festivals.

RECITALS/Showcases @ The St. George Theatre!

Our June Recital(s) highlight special performances and the progression of students’ technique. It’s the perfect way to put closure on the year.  Enticing lighting, and dazzling costumes make it all exciting for our dancers. (Preparation for dancers begins in January.)

Awards:

Trophies, medals, ribbons, and certificates are given out in June for dedication, performance and achievement. EVERY dancer receives an award!!

Classes are separated by age and level. We have a beginner class for everyone!
